Mathematics and Numeracy

The following page provides information on the coverage of skills taught within mathematics and numeracy for the autumn term. These are:

Place Value

Use a range of representations to develop and secure my understanding that the value of a digit is related to its position. I can read, record and interpret numbers, using figures and words up to at least one million.

Using the four operations: add/subtract/multiply/divide

Use the four arithmetic operations confidently, efficiently and accurately with integers and decimals.

Multiplication and Division

Revise multiplication facts up to 10 x 10, use corresponding division facts, use appropriate multiplication and division strategies to solve problems.  Develop fluency to recall multiplication facts up to at least 10 x 10 and use these to derive related facts.

Shape

Learn to explore vertices, edges and faces of three-dimensional shapes and I can use these characteristics to describe a three-dimensional shape. Draw and make models of 3D shapes. Use coordinates in all four quadrants to translate, rotate, and reflect shapes.

Measurement

Learn to estimate and measure length, capacity, mass, temperature and time, using appropriate standard units.

Algebra

Learn to model problems, using expressions and equations involving symbols or words to represent unknown values, adopting the conventions of algebra. I can use inverse operations to find unknown values in simple equations.

Pupils are challenged every week to improve their fluency in integral number skills such as multiplication and addition facts. Here is an example of the Year Six Big Maths Challenge. Pupils are encouraged to use the habit 'Get it Right!' to improve their scores and time. Here is an example below:
