Mathematics and Numeracy

The following page provides information on the coverage of skills taught within mathematics and numeracy for the summer term. These are:

Addition and Subtraction

• Revise vertical, written and expanded methods to add 2 and 3 digit numbers (Answers up to 1000)
• Revise exchanging using formal written addition.
• Solve subtractions of 3 and 2 digit numbers using pictorial base 10 and part part whole model, moving forward to contracted column method.
• Solve word problems.

Financial Literacy

• Revise all coins and notes up to £20 and use them practically to make varying amounts using £ and p.
• Read and records amounts of money using standard notation including the use of 0.

• Use place value to solve problems to add and subtract amounts of money.
• Solve 2 step problems.

Length and Height

• choose and use appropriate standard units to estimate and measure length/height in any direction (m/cm);
• Use a ruler to measure to the nearest cm.
• <>= to compare measurements
• problem solving using mixed measures
• practical application of measuring skills

Mass and Capacity

estimate and measure mass (kg/g); to the nearest 100g
• Know how many grams are in a kg
• <>= to compare measurements
• choose and use appropriate standard units to estimate and measure capacity (litres/ml) to the nearest 100ml using measuring vessels
• Know 1000ml is 1l
• problem solving using mixed measures
• practical application of measuring skills

Time Analogue and Digital

Revise there are 7 days in a week, 24 hours in a day and 52 weeks in a year.
• know the number of minutes in an hour and the number of hours in a day

• tell and write time in 5 minute intervals.
• Calculate time intervals and solve word problems involving time.
• Identify dates, months and years(leap year also) on calendars.
• Know minutes past and to in 5 minute intervals

Pupils are challenged every week to improve their fluency in integral number skills such as multiplication and addition facts. Here is an example of the Year Three Big Maths Challenge. Pupils are encouraged to use the habit 'Get it Right!' to improve their scores and time. Here is an example below:
